If you dig beyond the cuteness and repetitive verbage there is a goldmine of valuable information on workout philosophy, technique, and powerlifting protocols to keep your strength and fitness goals motivated for months to come. I think some people make way too big of a deal about that with his books.įor a physician and student of English literature I probably have 2 good reasons to trash this book. If you then decide you want to read more about Powerlifting or get ideas for other programs to do, this would be a good purchase further into a lifter's career. For the average lifter, or beginner, or most everyone really, I would recommend buying PTP first. He doesn't talk about much of anything from the other book at all. Unfortunately if you were looking for an expanded version of Power to the People (PTP), this is not it. So if that is what you are looking for, this is a great book. Some of it is old-school Russian stuff that I have not read about anywhere else. Both the technical details of the lift itself, and programs to implement to train the lifts. Pavel talks about multiple methods to train each lift. I love all the in-depth discussion of different techniques used for each of the power lifts, and the press. I'll go ahead and mention the great points about this book first. While elite athletes and powerlifters are those most likely to benefit from the advanced training information contained within Power to the People Professional, there remains a wealth of cutting-edge tips and tactics that intermediate lifters, athletes from various power sports, and power bodybuilders can use to immediately enhance their strength and power. Some of the chapters are straightforward coverage of "how they do it in Russia", others represent Pavel's own original work based on years of research and experimentation. In Power to the People Professional, Pavel broadens and deepens this knowledge base to encompass a vast range of little-known but highly effective methods to keep tricking our stubborn bodies into ever-greater strength gains. And thanks to his ability to ground theory in the proof of hard experience and earned results. And in this, Pavel has succeeded admirably, thanks to his access to the best training secrets not only in the West but in Russia-justly famous for its history of achievement in the world of strength and powerlifting. Pavel's great contribution has been to research and identify the proven "battle" strategies that give us the best chance to keep making those strength gains-whatever the odds.
